Palmside Press publishes independent regional guides.
Palmside Press was founded by Alison Iddings to build the kind of regional guide she wanted to read: written like a local pointing you in the right direction, not generated by an algorithm.
How listings work
Every business listed on a Palmside Press guide is there because our editors decided it belonged, not because it paid to be included. Listing is free, and we add, update, and remove listings based on our own judgment about what’s useful to a reader, regardless of whether a business advertises with us.
What paid placement is
Businesses can pay for two things, and only two things: better position, and a badge that says so.
Featured Listing moves a listing to the top of its area page and category, with a badge that marks it as featured everywhere it appears.
Homepage Spotlight adds placement in the homepage carousel, on top of an active Featured listing. Spotlight is limited inventory on each guide, not something every advertiser can buy.
What paid placement is not
Paid placement never changes the write-up. Our editors write and edit every listing description themselves, and payment doesn’t buy a rewrite, a better review, or removal of anything we’d otherwise say. Paid placement never removes or demotes a competitor. It never gets a business listed that wouldn’t have been listed on its own merits. If a business doesn’t belong on the guide editorially, no amount of advertising spend changes that.
How you’ll know something is paid
Every Featured listing carries a visible Featured badge, on the listing itself and everywhere it’s linked from. Homepage carousel placement is drawn only from the Spotlight pool. There’s no unlabeled paid placement anywhere on a Palmside Press guide.
